Loch Lomond's music carries the muted hues of autumn, rooted in the origins of a rundown basement where Ritchie Young's role as singer and songwriter lends his bittersweet words to vivid tracks centered on affection, recollection, and destiny. The Portland, OR ensemble reached completion in 2003 once Young's longtime acquaintance Rob Oberdorfer (the Standard) came aboard for a collaboration that lasted a full year. Young contributes guitars and mandolin while Oberdorfer handles drums, and Loch Lomond draws on a rotating group of players such as Kate O'Brien (violin), Jay Clarke (bass/accordion), Katie Schnepp (viola), and Peter Broderick (saw/slide guitar). When We Were Mountains served as the band's first release on In Music We Trust in 2004. A split 12" alongside Hurtbird appeared on High Karate the next year. During the writing and recording of their next project in mid-2006, Loch Lomond performed alongside Horse Feathers, Nina Nastasia, and Molly Rose.
