Biography
Los Lonely Boys formed as an American sibling trio originating from San Angelo, Texas, where the brothers crafted their signature style they dubbed “Texican Rock n’ Roll.” This sound blends roots rock, Texas blues, brown-eyed soul, country, and Tejano traditions. Having spent years supporting their father Ringo Garza, Sr., the three vocalists—guitarist Henry, bassist Jojo, and drummer Ringo, Jr.—stepped forward as Los Lonely Boys and launched their debut single “Real Emotions,” which entered the Hot 100. Their 2004 track “Heaven” climbed straight to number one on the adult contemporary chart while also landing inside the Hot 100’s Top 40; the self-titled debut album itself peaked at number nine on the Billboard 200. In 2009 the group joined Austin-based Playing in Traffic Records, issuing the covers EP 1969 and then three further sets on their own Lonelytone label—Keep On Giving: Acoustic Live!, Rockpango, and Revelation—before entering a ten-year recording break that ended with the arrival of 2024’s Resurrection.
Rooted in San Angelo, the Garza brothers fuse rock, blues, Tex-Mex, conjunto, and Tejano flavors, a mix forged first under their father Ringo Garza, Sr., who had performed with the sibling conjunto outfit the Falcones across Texas throughout the 1970s and 1980s. Once that ensemble disbanded, he pursued a solo career with his young sons already providing accompaniment; the family moved to Nashville during the 1990s, after which the brothers gradually established their own identity apart from him. Returning to Texas, they cut their first album, 2003’s Los Lonely Boys, at Willie Nelson’s Pedernales studio in Austin, where Nelson himself contributed. Epic Records secured major-label distribution rights in March 2004, elevating the lead single “Heaven” and earning the band a Grammy for Best Pop Performance the next year. Their second studio release, Sacred, surfaced in 2006, followed by Forgiven in 2008; that same year also brought the holiday set Christmas Spirit, their final Epic project. An acoustic tour the subsequent year coincided with the covers-only 1969 EP.
Even while maintaining a near-constant touring schedule, the trio remained committed to community initiatives, recording “Solid Ground” to spotlight the Family Justice Center of Erie County, recipient of the Austin-based CTK Foundation’s Heart and Soul grant for 2009. The center assists victims of domestic violence, and the track—co-written with poet Nancy Ghoston—was released in January 2010. During spring 2010 dates, Jojo Garza encountered vocal difficulties; doctors identified lesions on his cords and prescribed rest, prompting cancellation of April and May shows across the United States, Canada, and Europe. The setback delayed the band’s first independent album, Keep On Giving: Acoustic Live!, which finally emerged in fall 2010 on the Lonelytone/Playing in Traffic imprints. Three years after Revelation they delivered the all-original studio album Rockpango in 2011, a title the group describes as a invented Spanish term meaning “rock party.”
At a February 2013 concert in California, Henry Garza tumbled from the stage and sustained a serious spinal injury, sidelining him for much of the year while the band prepared its next project. Revelation reached stores in January 2014, debuting at number 120 on the Billboard 200 and number 28 on the Top Independent Albums chart. In October 2019 the trio declared a touring hiatus after bassist Jojo Garza departed; he rejoined in April 2022. That year they also opened several dates for the Who. Eleven years after Revelation, Los Lonely Boys returned with Resurrection, a self-produced collection of ten songs shaped during roadwork in 2022 and 2023.
