Marc Broussard

Born into music through his father Ted Broussard, the Boogie Kings guitarist and Louisiana Hall of Fame inductee, singer and songwriter Marc Broussard entered the world in Carencro, Louisiana, on January 14, 1982. Raised in nearby Lafayette, he absorbed both the region’s Cajun traditions and a deep affinity for R&B, shaping a vocal style that blended the gruff textures of John Hiatt and Dr. John with phrasing inspired by Otis Redding and Brian McKnight. Still in his late teens, he formed the Christian band Y before launching a solo career; his independent debut, Momentary Setback, surfaced on Ripley Records in September 2002 when he was barely twenty.

The album’s strong notices led to a deal with Island/Def Jam. Island placed “Just Like That,” a track from Momentary Setback, on the 2003 compilation Lost and Found, Vol. 1 alongside Ryan Adams and the Jayhawks, while Broussard also contributed “Back in Your Arms” to the Bruce Springsteen tribute Light of Day that same year. He spent 2003 on the road supporting the Dave Matthews Band, Maroon 5, and Gavin DeGraw. Island issued his sophomore effort, Carencro—named for his birthplace—in 2004; four years later he moved to Atlantic for Keep Coming Back. Extensive touring followed, with shared bills that now included Willie Nelson, O.A.R., and Bonnie Raitt in addition to previous partners.

In March 2011, digital singles “Lucky” and “Only Everything” previewed a self-titled album produced by Jamie Kenney and released that July on Vanguard. The more intimate Life Worth Living arrived in 2014 and earned widespread critical praise. That September, Broussard announced that half the proceeds from his S.O.S. II project would benefit organizations serving the homeless, including his hometown’s City of Refuge; he has maintained the practice on every subsequent entry in the series.

Easy to Love, issued on G-Man Records in 2017, reached the Top 25 of the Top Independent Albums chart. Two years later came the live set Home (The Dockside Sessions) and the family-oriented S.O.S. 3: A Lullaby Collection. Early 2023 brought S.O.S. 4: Blues for Your Soul, which featured Joe Bonamassa on three tracks and guest appearances by Bobby Junior, J.J. Grey, Eric Krasno, and Roddie Romero.
