Colombian Los Tri-O originated as a producer-driven endeavor when Johnny Gutiérrez organized auditions to assemble a trio centered on Latin ballads. Manuel, born Manuel Alejandro Correa Hoyos, entered music at thirteen and subsequently pursued studies in filmmaking and television at Colombia’s Universidad Nacional while also taking vocal instruction. Andrés, born Andrés Ospina Oristizaba, first explored nueva trova and Latin rock material during his teenage years. Esteban, born Esteban Alberto Herrera Muñoz, sang romantic numbers from an early age. The bolero-revival act Los Tri-O launched its recording career with Nuestro Amor in 1999, which remained on the chart for thirteen weeks, and issued Romanticos por Siempre the next year. In 2001 the ensemble released Siempre en Mi Mente, an anthology of romantic material written by Juan Gabriel, who joined the group for a duet on the title track. Ambitious in scope, that project was matched by 2004’s Canciones del Alma: De Marco Antonio Solis, an album devoted exclusively to the compositions and productions of the multi-Grammy-winning artist and producer; the release earned him an additional Grammy. Parece Que Fue Ayer appeared in 2005, prompting an intercontinental tour that promoted both albums. The following year the trio recorded Serenata en San Juan with vocalist Melina Leon and joined her on tour. Manuel soon departed to launch a thriving solo career, after which the remaining members disbanded amid disputes over the group’s name. Five years later they resolved their conflicts and reunited in 2015. Their return was marked by the November 2016 release of Nuestro Primer Disco: Nuestro Amor and an extensive tour that followed.
