Loveliescrushing took shape as a duo in the opening years of the 1990s after vocalist Melissa Arpin paired with multi-instrumentalist Scott Cortez to experiment within the rising dream pop movement. Demo recordings of their unconventional, densely textured material circulated among labels until Projekt reached out to arrange a single. The 1994 release Your Eyes Immaculate convinced the label to green-light a full album the following year, yielding Bloweyelashwish. That record combined atmospheric layers, Arpin’s wordless vocals, and looping drones, setting the pair apart from Projekt’s more gothic roster. Cortez later stressed that every element originated from guitar sources, a detail he highlighted after repeated assumptions that keyboards had been used. The next year brought Xuvetyn, whose intricate construction of rich tones pushed the project deeper into experimental territory. After supporting the album, the duo withdrew from view and spent years developing a new studio effort while repeatedly confirming they remained active. A 2001 announcement stated the record was finally ready for mixing and release, yet the calendar year closed without additional updates. Fans saw renewed activity in 2002 when Arpin and Cortez delivered their third album, the detailed and luminous Glissceule, which appeared on Sonic Syrup in March and was followed later that year by Voirshn on Projekt. Recording activity then largely paused for the balance of the decade before a strong return with Avianium (Microphona Magnetica) in 2010, Aviatrix in 2011, and Ghost Colored Halo in 2013.
