Biography
In November 2008 the Ann Arbor, Michigan imprint Ghostly International issued Glider, the debut album by the Sight Below—an alias of the withdrawn Seattle, Washington producer Rafael Anton Irisarri. The dark ambient techno set drew equally from shoegaze textures and the work of Wolfgang Voigt, its sound built from dense strata of processed guitar. Live renditions of the material subsequently appeared at Detroit’s Movement Festival, MUTEK, and Sónar, with additional concerts shared alongside Lusine. Former Slowdive guitarist Simon Scott made occasional onstage appearances with the Sight Below and later joined the project in the studio. The Murmur EP, containing a Biosphere remix, arrived in 2009. A second full-length, It All Falls Apart, surfaced the following year; more austere than Glider, it included a solemn cover of Joy Division’s “New Dawn Fades.”
