Biography
Canadian producer Dylan Khotin-Foote, who records simply as Khotin, crafts luminous and emotionally charged house music alongside whimsical, atmospheric ambient compositions. He shares management duties for the Normals Welcome imprint and its associated events, while his output on 1080p and Ghostly International has drawn both critical notice and steady club rotation. After defining a rich, tuneful house aesthetic through the 2014 album Hello World, he gradually shifted toward more abstract and textural explorations on the 2018 release Beautiful You and the 2023 album Release Spirit.
His first appearance on vinyl came in February 2014 via the track “Vitebsk,” issued by Normals Welcome, the Edmonton label and club night he helps operate. Later that summer, Hello World arrived first as a cassette on 1080p and then in shortened vinyl form on the German label Fauxpas Musik; the project quickly resonated throughout the underground dance community. Khotin kept issuing music and hosting events at Canadian venues, next offering an acid-leaning split EP with Dan White on Normals Welcome in August 2015 and the For U to Feel EP on Heart to Heart. Early 2016 brought the Baikal Acid 12" EP back to 1080p, while the ambient and downtempo album New Tab received an unexpected digital and cassette launch in 2017 before Pacific Rhythm supplied a vinyl edition.
During 2018, Khotin teamed with Project Pablo under the name Rest Corp for the debut EP Infinity Scroll. That same year he also issued the house-focused Aloe Drink on Public Release and the downtempo album Beautiful You, which he initially released himself. The latter gradually built an audience through word of mouth, prompting Ghostly International to reissue it in 2019. His first full project for the label proper, Finds You Well, surfaced the following year as a calm collection emphasizing his gentler inclinations, and Public Release closed out 2020 with the house EP Dream Mentor. He rejoined Ghostly for 2023’s Release Spirit, a livelier collection that included a guest spot from Tess Roby.
