Luis Ángel Pastor Rodríguez entered the world in 1952 in Berzocana, Extremadura, yet spent his formative years in Madrid driven by an unwavering ambition to sing. That determination led him to abandon formal education at age fourteen, take up employment, and simultaneously master the guitar. Upon reaching twenty, he resolved to pursue a career as a singer-songwriter modeled on protest figures like Paco Ibáñez. Singles began appearing around 1972, though repeated clashes with Franco-era censors interrupted his progress. His debut LP, Fidelidad, appeared in 1975 shortly before the regime’s collapse, after which Vallecas in 1976 and Nacimos Para Ser Libres in 1977 cemented his standing among the era’s defining songwriters. Declining demand for protest material prompted a shift toward theater and television scores, yet he maintained a steady output of recordings, issuing a fresh album every two or three years.
