Biography
Javier Krahe stands out as among the most mysterious singer-songwriters within Spain’s music landscape. Equipped with incisive sarcasm and profound admiration for Georges Brassens along with Leonard Cohen, he forged a path distant from popular routes, cultivating an ardent group of dedicated fans. Having originated in Madrid during 1944, Krahe initiated but did not complete studies in business. Establishing residence in Paris from 1967 onward, he crafted his earliest words in collaboration with brother Jorge. Upon his return to Spain, the performer issued his inaugural recording Valle de Lágrimas in 1989, showcasing his signature biting humor together with straightforward instrumentation profoundly shaped by Brassens. Subsequent albums followed with minimal or absent support from labels. Krahe’s attacks via television against the country’s ruling party as well as the image of Christ likewise hindered expansion to larger listenerships. Friends convened in 2004 to produce the tribute collection Y Todo Es Vanidad, which featured Enrique Morente, Alejandro Sanz, Joan Manuel Serrat, and Joaquín Sabina. The year 2006 brought forth Cinturón Negro de Karaoke.
