Pedal steel guitarist Maggie Björklund grew up in Denmark yet developed a signature approach rooted in American desert pop, a sound once aptly characterized as “the sound after the gunfight…” Within Europe she first gained recognition through her role in the Darleens and through session appearances alongside Lennart Ginman, Miss B. Haven, Niels Skousen, and additional artists; stateside she collaborated with Mark Pickerel & His Praying Hands, recorded for producers Johnny Sangster and Steve Fisk, and maintained a long association with Exene Cervenka.

Her first solo effort, Coming Home, included contributions from Calexico members Joey Burns and John Convertino as well as vocalists Jon Auer, Mark Lanegan, and Rachel Flotard; the album surfaced in Europe during 2009 and reached American listeners via Bloodshot Records in 2011. Two years later she contributed to Giant Sand’s Tucson: A Country Rock Opera and joined the all-female group the Peacocks, whose performances have supported Jack White on tour; she also played guitar on his Lazaretto album.

John Parish produced her second album, Shaken, on which he and Convertino both performed, and Bloodshot issued the record in October 2014.
