Biography
Hailing from Geelong, Australia, the fuzz-drenched noise outfit Magic Dirt featured vocalist Adalita Srsen, guitarist Dave Thomas, bassist Dean Turner and drummer Adam Robertson. The quartet developed out of prior projects that included the pop groups Deer Bubbles and Detroit, until a version of "Heroin" taped for a locally assembled Velvet Underground tribute disc earned them a devoted following. Once their self-titled 1995 LP appeared and they played shows opening for Pavement, Sonic Youth, Hole and Dinosaur Jr., Magic Dirt triggered a major-label bidding war, eventually signing with Warner Bros. and delivering Friends in Danger in late 1996.
