Malcolm Todd

Born in Los Angeles as Malcolm “Todd” Hobert, the artist grew up around television production thanks to his father Tim Hobert, whose writing and producing credits include Spin City, Scrubs, Community, and ABC’s The Middle. In 2012 he made a brief on-screen appearance as a baseball player in an episode of the latter series and later served as an extra on The PET Squad Files in 2015, though acting never became a sustained pursuit. Instead, during the pandemic he began recording his own material, shaping a fluid strain of alternative R&B marked by the introspective tone of an indie singer-songwriter and echoing the sensibilities of Steve Lacy and Tyler, the Creator.

His first collection, the six-track EP Demos Before Prom, arrived in May 2022, followed in March 2023 by another six-song set, Shower Shoes. Early online traction came with “Art House,” yet the decisive moment arrived in June 2023 when the breakup narrative “Roommates” turned into a viral hit; that momentum carried subsequent singles such as “Mr. Incorrect” and “4Me 4Me.” In February 2024 Todd issued the opening five tracks of his forthcoming album as an EP, added five more in March, and then delivered the complete sixteen-song Sweet Boy in April, incorporating several of those earlier releases. A standalone single, “Chest Pain (I Love),” surfaced that December.
