Mamba emerged as an all-vocal girl group pieced together after a worldwide talent hunt that echoed the way several other '90s pop acts such as the Backstreet Boys, N'Sync and the Spice Girls first came together. Mirroring the Spice Girls' lineup, the quartet features four attractive performers identified solely by first names: Glynnis, Jessica and Petra from Puerto Rico plus Keisha from the Dominican Republic. Capitalizing on the rising wave of enthusiasm for Latin pop acts alongside teen-focused, style-driven vocal ensembles, the group put out multiple singles across 1999, first in South America and subsequently in the U.S., where the tracks achieved prominent chart success. The debut release "El Pam Pam" registered its strongest reception in Spanish-language territories and appeared paired with the English-language track "Turn Around" on a late-1999 single issued by Radikal Records; the same song also landed on the label's compilation Sexy Latin Beats.
