Rohff built his reputation across the French rap landscape toward the end of the 1990s through both solo releases and membership in the hip-hop collective La Mafia K'1 Fry. His debut full-length, Le Code de l'Honneur, arrived in 1999 and showcased heavy beats alongside a smart flow paired with self-aggrandizing lyrics. Drawing inspiration from hardcore artists such as Mobb Deep and Tupac Shakur, he delivered his second album, La Vie Avant la Mort, in 2001; the project elevated his profile once the single “Qui Est l’Exemple?” gained traction in 2002. As his material grew more confrontational and the productions denser, the following two albums each earned gold certification. A widely discussed collaboration with American counterpart the Game, “Top of the World,” surfaced on the 2005 compilation The Basement. In 2007 he rejoined La Mafia K'1 Fry for the versatile mixtape Le Cauchemar du Rap Français. The eagerly awaited Le Code de l’Horreur followed the next year, while 2010 brought La Cuenta. Three years later Rohff introduced his clothing line Distinct and offered the single “Dounia” to preview P.D.R.G., scheduled for later that year; what began as a planned mixtape was elevated to official album status.
