Biography
Manel Camp ranks among Spain’s foremost contemporary pianists and composers, having drawn early inspiration from the Catalan Novo Canco movement that emerged in the 1950s. He entered the world in Barcelona in 1947, launching his professional path by co-founding the progressive-rock group Fusioon alongside his brother Jordi. The band issued three albums before disbanding in the mid-1970s. Subsequent partnerships with classical pianist Ludovica Mosca and percussionist Santi Arisa paved the way for his first solo release, the 1985 album Poesia Secreta. That project inaugurated an extensive catalog encompassing original scores for the musicals El Retaule de la Llum, Mes Enlla del Bosc, and Canigo y Fades, as well as music for multiple films, chamber compositions, and ballets, plus arrangements created for Llúis Llach, Maria del Mar Bonet, and Joan Isaac. Maintaining a steady schedule of appearances at international festivals, Camp has in recent years also joined the faculty of L’Escola Superior de Musica de Catalunya, where he instructs students in jazz and modern music.
