Biography
Born in Edmonton, the young artist launched her musical journey at a tender age and has maintained unbroken momentum ever since. As the eighth child in a family of ten, Maren Ord frequently joined her siblings to perform as the Ord Family Singers throughout Edmonton and its surrounding areas. After receiving piano instruction from her mother, she picked up the guitar and mastered it independently by age 15, while routinely replicating whatever tracks caught her ear on the radio. She entered and claimed victory in multiple high-school battle-of-the-bands contests alongside her ensemble Harry Ainlay before submitting an entry to a radio-station song competition on a whim, resulting in one of her compositions appearing on the resulting compilation. In 1998, an audition for a place on the Lilith Fair tour drew the notice of Terry McBride, who managed both Sarah McLachlan and Barenaked Ladies, prompting her to sign with Nettwerk Records in Canada and issue her debut album, Waiting, in November 2000. Tracks of hers have featured on the television series Felicity and That's Life, and she has earned nominations for both Prairie Music and Pearl awards while appearing onstage alongside Sheryl Crow, the Cowboy Junkies, and Jimmy Rankin, among additional performers.
