Born in Bragia, Portugal, on May 8, 1957, singer Marie Myriam secured the 1977 Eurovision Song Contest victory while representing France despite her Portuguese origins. The winning song "L'Oiseau et la Enfant" achieved widespread European success afterward. She continues to rank among the country's most recognizable Eurovision entrants, returning periodically to later contests in order to announce the French votes. At the 2005 50th anniversary concert held in Copenhagen, she performed that same winning entry again.
