Biography
Pop singer Marti Jones began her recording career as the lead vocalist for Color Me Gone, then released her first solo album, Unsophisticated Time, in 1985 under the production of future husband Don Dixon. Despite earning broad critical praise, she achieved minimal sales with the 1986 LP Match Game, which included guest appearances by Mitch Easter, T-Bone Burnett, and Darlene Love, as well as the 1988 follow-up Used Guitars, which drew contributions from Marshall Crenshaw and Janis Ian, prompting A&M to end her contract. She next moved to RCA, where 1990’s Any Kind of Lie appeared, after which she stepped away from the spotlight until 1996, when Sugar Hill issued the two new projects Live at Spirit Square and My Long-Haired Life. Another Dixon-produced set, My Tidy Doily Dream, came out in 2002 on the Dixon Archival Remnants imprint, yet Jones soon channeled much of her artistic focus into painting as Marti Jones Dixon. The husband-and-wife team of Marti Jones and Don Dixon made Lucky Stars: New Lullabies for Old Souls available as a digital download in March 2008.
