Biography
For more than three decades the esteemed American pianist Martin Katz has built a distinguished career as a collaborative artist, partnering with luminaries such as Marilyn Horne, Kathleen Battle, Kiri Te Kanawa, Frederica von Stade, and José Carreras. His appearances have taken place on leading recital stages worldwide, and his work has been documented on numerous major record labels. As a scholar he has prepared editions of Baroque- and bel canto-era operas that have reached the stage of the Metropolitan Opera and other prominent houses. Musical America named him Accompanist of the Year in 1998. He now serves as Artur Schnabel Professor of Music at the University of Michigan, where he teaches vocal repertory, ensemble piano, and vocal coaching and regularly conducts the university’s opera productions.
