Ambient/dub techno producer Martin Nonstatic crafts enveloping, tranquil soundscapes drawn from the grand vistas surrounding his Austrian residence, employing deep dub basslines and sharp rhythmic textures to guide listeners through serene sonic voyages, evident throughout his expansive 2017 album Ligand.

He entered the world as Martin van Rossum in the Netherlands during 1976, then relocated with his family to the vicinity of Köln, Germany, at age 12. Early exposure to ambient, techno, and drum'n'bass sparked his fascination with synthesizers and studio techniques by his late teenage years. Initial efforts centered on live sets, with recordings shared solely among relatives and close acquaintances. His debut commercial outing arrived in 2011 via the digital-only tech-house EP "Inner Viewing" on Nuwax. Transitioning toward ambient/dub techno, he issued additional EPs through Silent Season, Entropy, Dewtone, and Subspiele, the latter issuing his first full-length effort, Back on Earth, in 2014. During that same year he settled in Austria while unveiling his second album, Inner Landscapes, via Bine. Thereafter he aligned with the ambient imprint Ultimae, sensing a natural alignment for his work. Granite, released in 2015, represented his most refined and widely praised statement up to that point, with reviewers labeling it his "coming of age." The next year brought the uncommon live album Nebulae, captured during a performance at the planetarium in Bochum, Germany. In 2017 he delivered his pinnacle achievement, the sweeping Ligand, and two years afterward joined Sweden's Esko Barba under the Eskostatic moniker for the IDM-focused releases Serpentines and Valleys.
