Formed in 1996 by the psychedelic duo of Simon Posford and Raja Ram, Shpongle emerged as an ambient techno and trance outfit following their observation of a solar eclipse in India. The pair subsequently headed into the studio with the goal of sonically recreating that event, yielding the twenty-minute composition "...And the Day Turned to Night," which appeared on the Twisted label's Eclipse compilation. Early in 1999 came the project's inaugural full-length release, Are You Shpongled?. The follow-up album, Tales of the Inexpressible, surfaced in 2001, incorporating Spanish and East Asian instrumental elements. Their 2005 third LP, Nothing Lasts... But Nothing Is Lost, was conceived as a concluding statement, yet Shpongle reemerged four years later via Ineffable Mysteries from Shpongleland, which explored world music influences, along with the 2010 God Particle EP. Museum of Consciousness arrived in 2013, preceding the sixth album, Codex VI, issued in 2017.
