Biography
MF Robots, also known as Music for Robots, operates as a neo-funk, soul, and R&B venture fronted by Dawn Joseph and Jan Kincaid, both ex-members of the Brand New Heavies. The pair launched the project in 2017 after exiting that band, with Joseph handling vocals and Kincaid on drums. Joseph had already built an extensive résumé that included bass duties alongside Phil Collins plus vocal work with Michael McDonald, CeeLo Green, and Kylie Minogue; she first joined the Brand New Heavies as lead singer in 2013. While performing with the group she connected with founding member Kincaid, and the two soon began composing original material influenced by Gladys Knight, Whitney Houston, and Anita Baker. After the Brand New Heavies issued their 2014 album Sweet Freaks, Joseph and Kincaid stepped away to concentrate on their own recordings. Their self-titled debut appeared in 2018, followed by the 2021 sophomore release Break the Wall.
