Biography
Standing out among the acid jazz acts that surfaced in the opening years of the 1990s, the brief existence of Young Disciples centered on the talents of Carleen Anderson handling vocals and keyboards, Marc Nelson on bass, guitar, and organ, along with Femi Williams managing percussion and programming duties. The ensemble first appeared on record in 1990 via the single "Get Yourself Together," before achieving a Top 20 placement on the U.K. charts in 1991 with "Apparently Nothin'." Their only full-length effort, Road to Freedom, benefited from contributions by Masta Ace, Maceo Parker, Fred Wesley, and Pee Wee Ellis, and saw release through Talkin' Loud in the United Kingdom while Polygram handled distribution across the States. Once the group disbanded, Anderson pursued a solo career, whereas Nelson and Williams maintained their involvement in studio sessions as supporting musicians.
