Kele Le Roc, the soul singer born Kelly Biggs in East London in 1977, surfaced from the same British R&B wave of the 1990s that launched Beverley Knight, Shola Ama, and Hinda Hicks. Brief solo traction soon gave way to steady demand as a featured voice on assorted dance tracks. Industry interest in her underground cut “Let Me Know” prompted Polydor Records to offer a contract. After opening for Total and Horace Brown, she issued her debut single “A Little Bit of Lovin,” which climbed to number eight on the U.K. chart; the follow-up “My Love” matched that position. Two MOBO Awards for Best Newcomer and Best Single followed, yet Polydor dropped her once her debut album Everybody Somebody underperformed. Early in the 2000s she contributed to Basement Jaxx’s Top Ten single “Romeo” and supplied guest vocals for releases by Shy FX and Curtis Lynch, Jr. In 2010 she dropped the mixtape Been There Done That and recorded a duet with L.A. hip-hop artist Tha Vill.
