Emerging amid the early 2000s surge of upbeat dance-pop tunes, the U.K. urban soul ensemble Damage brought a distinctive flavor to the scene. Childhood companions Andre, Rashaan, Jade, Noel, and Coree formed the core of the group, intent on fusing British garage rhythms with R&B influences. Tracks including "Ghetto Romance" and "Still Be Lovin' You" earned cult status within club circles, coinciding with the band's notoriety for vocal critiques of competitors like A1 and Craig David, as well as the commercial priorities dominating the music business. Rumors from the tabloids often touched close to home for the act. Notably, the partnership between Jade Jones and Emma Bunton, recognized as Baby Spice, enhanced Damage's public profile. Their European introduction came with the album Since You've Been Gone, which EMI put out in April 2001.
