Biography
Born in New Zealand, contemporary rocker and singer-songwriter Daniel Bedingfield spent his childhood in southeast London. His primary influences came from contemporary R&B, leading him to collaborate with sisters Natasha and Nikola in forming their earliest group, the DNA Algorhythm. A girlfriend from Leeds motivated him to lay down “Gotta Get Thru This” in his bedroom by routing a microphone straight into his home computer. Released on independent imprint Relentless Records, the track shot straight to the summit of the U.K. singles chart in December 2001, only weeks after its arrival. At twenty-one, the rising pop singer suddenly found himself a local celebrity. After signing with Polydor UK he developed fresh songs and issued his debut album, Gotta Get Thru This, in fall 2002. Second First Impression appeared three years later. Around 2006 he stepped away from his own career for an extended period, devoting his time exclusively to material for other artists. He resurfaced in 2012 with the single “Rocks Off,” followed the same year by the EP Stop the Traffik - Secret Fear, the opening release in a projected series of three EPs.
