Born in Bielefeld, Germany, during 1974, drummer and composer Mike Reed passed the greater part of his youth in Evanston, Illinois, immediately north of Chicago. He remains headquartered in Chicago, where he has figured prominently within the city’s dynamic jazz community through performances alongside the Treehouse Project, the David Boykin Expanse, Rob Mazurek’s Exploding Star Orchestra, and the Josh Berman Quartet, in addition to further ensembles. Reed has contributed to multiple Chicago recording ventures and, recording under his own name on the 482 Music label, issued In the Context Of in 2006, Last Year’s Ghost in 2007, and both Proliferation and The Speed of Change in 2008. He established the nonprofit Emerging Improvisers Organization in 2001; the group underwrites a weekly concert series devoted to jazz and improvised music throughout the city.
