Miles Jaye, once part of the Village People, rose to prominence as a male vocalist favored in urban music scenes throughout the latter half of the 1980s. He trained on violin while based in New York and picked up keyboards along with bass during his Air Force service. Before completing a two-year engagement with the Village People, Jaye performed alongside guitarist Eric Gale and collaborated with Phyllis Hyman. After Teddy Pendergrass heard a demo tape, he placed Jaye under contract with his production company. In 1987 Island issued the album Miles, whose track “Let’s Start Love Over” achieved notable success. Jaye supplied the songs “Good to Yo2u” and “I’m Ready” for Pendergrass’s Joy album. Irresistible, the follow-up project, yielded the further charting singles “Objective” and “Heaven,” and Strong, his third effort, featured the cut “Sensuous.”
