Biography
Emerging from the vibrant Providence, RI music community of the 1990s, Mindflayer took shape as a duo fusing drums and electronics. Brian Chippendale, already active in Lightning Bolt on drums, joined forces with electronics specialist Matt Brinkman of Forcefield to launch the project in 1996, focusing on regional gigs and intermittent drops of tapes and CD-Rs. Their first proper album, Take Your Skin Off, appeared via Bulb Records in 2003, followed the next year by Load’s official release of the earlier CD-R It’s Always 1999.
