Biography
Minus Story channel an offbeat neo-psychedelic zeal for bright melodies and eccentric arrangements, positioning themselves as successors to the Flaming Lips in the realm of lysergic pop. Drawing from sources as varied as the Beatles, the Beach Boys, the Zombies, and Yes, the quartet folds every strain of pop innovation they can gather into a single disorienting, harmony-rich journey.
Although rooted in Boonville, MO, the band maintains close connections to the Lawrence, KS, music community; Jordan Geiger on guitar and vocals, bassist Brian Phillips, guitarist Andy Byers, and drummer Nick Christus—who also calls himself a wizard—first assembled in 2000. Their debut album, Belle Ame, appeared as a self-released effort in 2001, followed the same year by Moebius Syndrome on Mercrider. Yet many listeners regard the expansive 2004 Jagjaguwar release The Captain Is Dead, Let the Drum Corpse Dance as the group’s genuine breakthrough, a dense lo-fi psychedelic landmark. No Rest for Ghosts arrived twelve months afterward. For their third album, My Ion Truss, issued in 2007, the musicians enlisted producer John Congleton.
