Biography
Originating in the eighteenth century alongside the founding of their Tibetan monastery, the ritual chanting performed by the Monks of Dip Tse Chok Ling Monastery carries centuries-old traditions. Compelled to resettle in Dharamsala, a modest Himalayan foothill village, the Tibetan Buddhist ensemble now comprises forty monks and students. Producer David Parsons and his wife Kay made three separate visits to the monastery in 1989 for the purpose of capturing the monks' ritual music. Working together with Ven. Thupten Nyandak, they released two albums titled Sacred Ceremonies Ritual Music of Tibetan Buddhism and Sacred Ceremonies 2: Tantric Hymns and Music of Tibetan Buddhism. The Monks of the Dip Tse Chok Ling Monastery also contributed to the soundtrack of the 1992 film Baraka.
