Deva Premal

Born in Germany, vocalist Deva Premal brought classical training to her primary renown in new age music, where she developed a signature style of reciting Hindu mantras across modern arrangements supplied by her partner and collaborator Miten. That musician had already established himself through participation in the English blues-rock circuit of the 1970s. Her debut release, The Essence, appeared in 1998 and was succeeded by Love Is Space in 2000. In 2008 Premal and Miten issued their most recent project, Into Silence, a retrospective collection drawn from earlier recordings. The preceding album, The Moola Mantra from 2007, registered immediate success within the genre by ascending several of its charts.
