Biography
Robert Hood channels the same lean, daringly forward-looking sensibility through his Monobox alias as he does under his given name, while infusing the music with tangible warmth and vitality. The Detroit-born minimal techno originator first deployed the pseudonym on a run of singles in the mid-1990s, culminating in the project’s debut album Molecule in 2003. Occasional reactivations followed, yielding the second long-player Regenerate in 2021.
Realm launched the Monobox discography on Hood’s M-Plant label in 1996, with Downtown arriving the next year. Population appeared in 2001, after which the project relocated to France’s Logistic Records for the 2003 release of Molecule. Its material later received reinterpretations from Ricardo Villalobos, Matthew Dear, Akufen, and additional producers, collected on the CD Molecule (The Remixes) and a series of vinyl EPs. Monobox rejoined the M-Plant roster in 2014 via the Film 12". The Forwardbase Kodai EP, containing a rework by Ø [Phase], surfaced in 2021 just before the arrival of Regenerate.
