Biography
The indie rock luminaries Conor Oberst and Mike Mogis of Bright Eyes joined forces with M. Ward from She & Him and Jim James of My Morning Jacket to launch Monsters of Folk. The concept first took shape in 2004 and coalesced over time through shared stage appearances and informal backstage gatherings that occurred whenever the four performers crossed paths while supporting their individual bands and side projects. Though grounded in folk traditions, the playfully branded supergroup channels its sound firmly into classic rock territory. Their concerts stand out for the spontaneous trading of roles and instruments, a trait that preceded the September 22, 2009 release of the band's self-titled debut album.
