Biography
In 1974 the soft rock ballad “Feelings” thrust Brazilian singer and songwriter Morris Albert into worldwide prominence, later climbing to Top Ten positions on both the U.S. and U.K. charts. That single and the 1975 debut album sharing its title ultimately stood as the high point of his commercial output. A self-titled follow-up LP appeared in 1976, reaching number 135 on the American pop listings before his visibility gradually receded. Although the São Paulo native kept issuing pop albums in Brazil throughout the ensuing years, the song’s standing was complicated in the 1980s when French singer and songwriter Loulou Gasté brought legal action against Albert, alleging that the melody of “Feelings” had been taken from Gasté’s own 1957 composition “Pour Tio.” Since 1989 the track’s authorship has been jointly assigned to Gasté and Albert.
