PSC and BFAP launched their partnership as Mystik Journeymen in 1992, establishing themselves as the originators of the East Oakland underground collective Living Legends. While visiting a girlfriend in Oakland, Southern Californian PSC crossed paths with BFAP and eventually relocated to become a permanent member of the crew, which at that stage still featured several additional rappers who would later depart. By 1994 the duo had earned local renown through their Underground Survivors parties and the sale of mixtapes. The following year the Grouch joined their efforts; after extensive roadwork that reached Europe, Mystik Journeymen assembled the broader Living Legends roster by bringing in 3 Melancholy Gypsys (aka Murs, Eligh, and Scarub), Moonrocks (aka Bicasso and Nebulus), Aesop, and Arata. Their LLCrew imprint began issuing recordings in 1995, and over the ensuing years Mystik Journeymen issued a steady stream of albums, among them 1995’s 4001: The Stolen Legacy and 1996’s Pressed 4 Time, while also extending their performances to the Far East and Australia. In 1999 the collective relocated from the Bay Area to Los Angeles, and through The Black Sands ov Eternia they started releasing material on Outhouse/Revenge. Two thousand two finally saw the appearance of Living Legends: Live, which captured the widely admired energy of their stage performances, followed later that same year by their ninth album, Magic.
