Biography
Nanang Tatang crafts a hazy strain of dream pop where introspective lyricism meets the deliberate minimalism of outfits such as Low, augmented by rudimentary drum-machine patterns, sustained electronic tones, and drifting ambient layers. Emerging from New York City, the act stands as one among numerous partnerships between longtime collaborators Daniel Littleton and Elizabeth Mitchell, who together launched Ida. Mitchell handles the singing while Littleton supplies piano, harmonium, guitar, Wurlitzer, viola, organ, and bass; the pair captured their first release under the Nanang Tatang name inside their own home studio. Issued by Tiger Style in 2003, the album Muki carried forward Ida’s recognizable hallmarks yet pushed the music toward previously uncharted and closely personal territory.
