Biography
Born Nashil Pichen Kazembe, the artist stood among Rhodesia’s foremost musical figures throughout the 1950s. Working alongside Kenya-born multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Peter Tsotsi, he produced some of the most striking sounds then emerging from the continent, reshaping the pennywhistle-driven kwela style of South African bands into a buoyant, twist-inflected form of dance music.
