Biography
Neighborhood Brats emerged from California as a punk rock outfit anchored in the raw ethos of late-1970s first-wave punk, yet propelled by a speed and ferocity that matched the most aggressive hardcore acts of their era. Anchored by the steadfast partnership of vocalist Jenny Angelilo and guitarist George Rager, the group generated a steady stream of favorably received singles and EPs while crisscrossing the United States and Europe throughout the opening years of the 2010s, culminating in the October 2014 arrival of their debut full-length, Recovery. Multiple personnel shifts and ongoing monetary strain tested the collective, yet the core members regrouped to produce a sophomore effort and sustained live activity well into the following decade, issuing their third album, Confines of Life, in 2021.
The band coalesced in San Francisco during 2010 after Angelilo and Rager disbanded their prior project, Roofie & the Nightstalker. Their self-titled debut EP surfaced in the first months of 2011, followed over the ensuing two years by assorted singles and the Birth Right EP. Throughout this span the pair shuttled repeatedly between northern and southern California, prompting constant turnover in the rhythm section. By 2013 the compilation No Sun No Tan gathered their initial recordings onto a single LP, at which point international interest began to build, prompting the addition of regular European dates. The Total Dementia EP appeared in January 2014, after which the musicians commenced tracking their first collection of original album material. Captured and delivered amid an intense sequence of tours, Recovery marked the end of that phase. Weary from prolonged road work, fluctuating memberships, and the everyday demands of sustaining an independent punk unit, Angelilo and Rager paused operations in 2015.
They resumed live performances in 2016 and delivered the follow-up album Claw Marks in 2018. The group maintained strong connections with both their overseas and domestic audiences, completing their third long-player in 2020 before Confines of Life reached listeners the next year.
