Biography
Formed in Sweden during 1985, the Creeps embodied an uninhibited, unpretentious strain of garage rock. Drawing primary inspiration from the Animals, Robert Jelinek (vocals, guitar), Hans Ingemansson (Hammond organ), Anders Olsson (bass) and Patrick Olson (drums) earned a reputation as Scandinavia’s version of the Hamsters through their nonstop road schedule. Their first album, Now Dig This, appeared in 1988. Two years later the single ‘Ooh I Like It’ scored a major Swedish hit and was chosen Best Song Of The Year by MTV viewers in 1990. Its parent album, Blue Tomato, likewise enjoyed widespread success, although the band’s devotion to live performance has never translated fully in the studio. The sheer volume of touring eventually prompted an early-90s hiatus after several members neared nervous breakdowns. They resurfaced in 1993 with Seriouslessness, a characteristically buoyant and finely crafted set of bar-room R&B songs.
