New Tradition emerged in the early '80s as a bluegrass ensemble deeply anchored in gospel traditions. Formed with modest aims of staying a strictly regional act, the ensemble quickly escalated to a schedule exceeding 200 performances annually while shifting substantial quantities of its recordings. Across its history the lineup has featured songwriter, mandolinist, and bass vocalist Danny Roberts alongside banjoist and vocalist Richie Dotson; Sand Springs, OK, native Jamie Clifton, who handled guitar and tenor duties; bassist and lead singer Daryl Mosely, who at one point served as pastor of a Southern Baptist Congregation near Nashville and contributed songs to Ronnie Milsap's publishing company; and later addition Aaron McDaris, the banjo player formerly of Second Exit. Its Christian-oriented songbook blends gospel, bluegrass, and a cappella quartet material.
