Nightfall ranks among Greece's most enduring underground acts in extreme metal, propelled chiefly by Efthimis Karadimas, who performs vocals, bass, and keyboards. Karadimas launched the band in his hometown of Athens during the early 1990s. Their first full-length, Parade into Centuries, surfaced in 1992 and embraced the doom/death metal approach dominant then, placing it among the earliest Greek metal releases to gain international notice. Guitarists Mike Galiatsos and Christian Adamou plus drummer Costas Savidis appeared on that effort. The same players reassembled a year later for the more experimental Macabre Sunsets. Nightfall soon began the first in a lengthening string of progressively successful European tours, enlisting George Aspiotis for samples and keyboards. Further strong releases followed, including the Eons Aura EP and third album Athenian Echoes, both issued in 1995, along with the provocative Lesbian Show in 1997. Widely praised yet divisive, that record cleared the path for the gothic metal leanings of 1999's Electronegative EP and Diva Futura LP, which featured incoming drummer Mark Cross. Apart from a lone 2001 slot at Wacken Festival, the group stayed silent until 2003, when Karadimas returned with guitarists George Bokos and Bob Gatsionis plus drummer George Kollias on the album I Am Jesus.
