Nils Landgren

Nils Landgren, a Swedish trombonist active in both funk and jazz, completed his initial classical studies at the music college in Karlstad and the university in Arvika. An encounter with jazz legends Bengt-Arne Wallin and Eje Thelin introduced him to improvisation and prompted his relocation to Stockholm, where he later toured with Swedish pop phenomena Björn Skifs on the track “Hooked on a Feeling.” Since that period, his playing has appeared on roughly 500 albums alongside artists ranging from Herbie Hancock and ABBA to the Crusaders and Wyclef Jean. His first solo album, Planet Rock, arrived in 1983 and was followed by further releases such as Streetfighter, You Are My Nr 1, Miles from Duke, Chapter 2, and Follow Your Heart. The Nils Landgren Funk Unit, which he assembled in 1992, has issued several recordings that include Live in Stockholm, Fonk da World, 5,000 Miles, and Funky ABBA.
