Biography
Australian band Noiseworks originated in Sydney during 1985. Their hard rock approach drew equally from local pub-rock outfits like Cold Chisel and U.S. groups such as Bon Jovi, helping them emerge as one of the stronger Australian rock acts by the close of the 1980s. The self-titled debut arrived in 1987 and quickly gained traction through the impact of singles "No Lies," "Welcome to the World," and "Take Me Back," ultimately earning triple-platinum status in Australia after moving more than 210,000 copies.
The 1989 follow-up Touch proved less dominant commercially yet still moved over 150,000 units. With Love vs Money in 1991 the group reduced certain synthesized textures in favor of a blend between direct rock and dance rhythms, yielding the singles "RIP Millie" and the Cult-influenced "Hot Chilli Woman." Even so, the record fell short of the debut's sales, prompting the band's dissolution shortly afterward, after which a best-of collection surfaced in 1994.
New Zealand-born frontman Jon Stevens later built a thriving solo path, while Steve Balbi and Justin Stanley reappeared in the mid-'90s via the brief Electric Hippies project. Stevens joined original members Stuart Fraser and Kevin Nichol in 1999 to revive the outfit as Noiseworks II.
