Biography
Formed in Argentina during 1960, Quinteto Real originated with pianist Horacio Salgán and guitarist Ubaldo De Lío, soon augmented by Enrique Mario Francini, Rafael Ferro, and bandoneonist Pedro Laurenz. Their self-titled debut album appeared that same year and was succeeded by Su Majestad El Tango. These talented tango and milonga performers traveled to Japan in 1964, where they captured a performance on the album Quinteto Real en Japon. Once bandoneonist Leopoldo Federico and violinist Antonio Agri came aboard, the ensemble adopted the new designation Nuevo Quinteto Real.
