Biography
Emerging from the vibrant multi-genre scene that flourished in Los Angeles throughout the 2010s, Knxwledge and Anderson .Paak operate as the duo NxWorries. They craft eccentric funk and hip-hop for the respected local imprint Stones Throw, first teaming up on the 2015 EP Link Up & Suede before issuing the full-length Yes Lawd! the following year. After a hiatus, the pair resurfaced in 2022 with the H.E.R. collaboration “Where I Go” and returned two years later with their more expansive second album, Why Lawd?.
Prior to the early 2015 arrival of their debut single “Suede” and its accompanying EP, both members had already built substantial careers. During that same calendar year they each appeared on major releases, with Knxwledge co-producing “Momma” from Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp a Butterfly and Paak contributing prominently to Dr. Dre’s Compton. In 2016, after Knxwledge and Earl Sweatshirt dropped “Balance” and Paak guested on tracks by Kaytranada, ScHoolboy Q, Jack Garratt, and Mac Miller, Stones Throw put out the NxWorries album Yes Lawd!. A remix edition followed in 2017 on the same label. Knxwledge maintained his steady solo pace with the 2020 Stones Throw release 1988, while Paak delivered Oxnard and Ventura and, as one half of Silk Sonic, nearly reached the summit of the Billboard 200 in 2021.
The duo carved out time to reconvene, issuing the ballad “Where I Go” in 2022—co-written with H.E.R. and featuring additional writing from Maxx Moor—followed by another slow jam, “Daydreaming,” in 2023. The braggadocious “Sentra86” and the aching “FromHere” served as the last previews ahead of Why Lawd?, which arrived in June 2024. Alongside H.E.R. and the “FromHere” guests Snoop Dogg and October London, the album also spotlighted Charlie Wilson, Thundercat, Rae Khalil, Earl Sweatshirt, and Dave Chappelle.
