Biography
Having been born in Moscow, Olga Bell—an electronic composer, producer, and vocalist—spent her childhood in Alaska. Relocation to New York City occurred in her early twenties, driven by goals centered on performance and songwriting. After finishing coursework at the New England Conservatory, she settled in Brooklyn and started performing live while issuing material solely under her surname. A self-titled, self-released EP from 2007 first presented her robust vocal style alongside buoyant electronic indie songs, followed by the 2011 debut album Diamonite and assorted tracks plus remixes circulated online. Independent-music circles brought encounters with an array of figures such as Das Racist and Philip Glass. Formation of the dance-oriented outfit Nothankyou came through work with British musician Tom Vek, and 2012 marked her addition to Dirty Projectors in the dual capacity of keyboardist and vocalist. The 2014 solo album Krai consisted entirely of Russian-language material that examined Russian heritage together with lesser-known territories of her native country. Incitation appeared as an EP the following year, and 2016 delivered the third LP, Tempo, propelled by alternative dance elements.
