Biography
From an early age, Omar Bashir seemed destined for a life centered on music. As the son of the late influential oud player Munir Bashir (1930-1997), he has carried forward the exploration of mode-based, raga-like Arabic Taqsim that his father had introduced to global audiences. His father instructed him on the oud beginning at age five, after which Bashir pursued studies in music and ballet in Baghdad at age seven. Upon completing his training at the Academy of Music and Ballet, he continued his education by focusing on art at the Conservatory of Baghdad. Following his return to Hungary, Bashir has instructed students in choir singing and music theory within the music department at Baghdad's University of Sciences.
