Biography
Painted Shrines unites Glenn Donaldson of Skygreen Leopards with Jeremy Earl of Woods in a partnership that fuses their individual approaches to wistful yet psychedelic pop. Long acquainted through informal collaborations, the pair unveiled their first album, Heaven and Holy, in 2021.
Their earliest joint work occurred on Woods’ 2011 album Sun & Shade, to which Donaldson contributed bass, guitar, and guest vocals on multiple tracks. In 2018 Earl visited Donaldson’s Northern California studio, where the two spent a week laying down the songs that formed the initial Painted Shrines recordings. Papercuts member Jeff Moller added bass to complete the set of jangly psychedelic indie rock tunes and instrumental interludes. After finishing the material together, Earl and Donaldson released Heaven and Holy on the Woodsist label in March 2021.
