Biography
Assembling leftover Jesu recordings in 2007, Justin K. Broadrick assembled the compilation Pale Sketches, whose electronic character set it apart from the rest of the Jesu catalog. Those pieces favored synth textures over the project’s usual heavy guitar riffs. Working under the Pale Sketcher alias, Broadrick reworked the Pale Sketches material through a process he termed “demixed,” pushing the pieces further into atmospheric and abstract territory while retaining an emotional resonance comparable to early Boards of Canada and Ulrich Schnauss. The project first appeared on Ghostly International’s May 2010 various-artists release Horizon Line/Ghostly by Night. Three months afterward, Ghostly released Jesu: Pale Sketches Demixed, presenting a fresh version of every track from the original Pale Sketches album.
